A Year in Practice
Building, teaching, testing, and expanding the work.
01 / SEARCH
AI Search Strategy & Innovation
Turning a rapidly changing search landscape into practical strategy, tools, and guidance the team can actually use.
Built the AI Visibility & Perception framework to help account teams understand and communicate how brands appear, compete, and are represented across AI-driven search experiences.
Supported Garrett and Semrush in the development of Sokal’s AI visibility toolkit, bringing an SEO practitioner’s perspective into how the toolkit should work and what would actually be useful.
Actively test and use the toolkit in real client work, continuing to evaluate its usefulness, limitations, and opportunities while adoption across the broader team is still developing.
Translate ongoing AI and search research into practical application, connecting emerging changes in search behavior with client strategy, reporting, content, and internal education.
02 / ENABLE
SEO Enablement & Training
Turning individual SEO knowledge into shared capability by creating training, guidance, and stronger connections between the teams responsible for executing the work.
Expanded SEO education through formal training, including an expanded GA4 training designed to strengthen how the team understands, interprets, and communicates performance data.
Helped expand SEO Lab as a dedicated learning environment, creating space for coordinators, interns, newer team members, and others to strengthen practical SEO skills, ask questions, and learn through real workflows and examples.
Regularly contribute to team-wide learning, presenting during monthly team meetings and bi-weekly SEO Strategist Roundtables across changing SEO topics, tools, workflows, and strategic needs.
Extended enablement beyond my immediate role and team, supporting coordinators and new hires while also building stronger collaboration with teams like Web so SEO requirements, technical realities, and execution can meet in the middle.
03 / SYSTEMS
Systems, SOPs & Standards
Building clearer, repeatable ways of working so strong SEO execution depends less on individual memory and more on shared systems.
Complexity is not the same thing as sophistication.
Make the strategy smart. Make the execution simple.
Built and expanded practical SOPs and standards across core SEO workflows, including Screaming Frog, GSC regex, Screaming Frog regex, image optimization, content optimization, third-party page creation, AI tool usage, and strategy development.
Integrated those systems into SEO Lab, giving coordinators a more consistent starting point for how work should be completed, checked, and improved before fragmented habits form.
Started moving from one-off documentation toward broader team infrastructure, including conversations with Garrett around SEO content coverage and stronger standards for consistent execution.
Began building the Sokal utilities library for SEO page creation, with the goal of making reusable page-building resources easier for the SEO team to access and apply.
04 / STRATEGY
Client Strategy & Scalable Execution
Building stronger client strategies while creating enough structure around them that good strategic thinking can scale into consistent execution.
Expanded the use of AI-assisted strategy development to build thoughtful, thorough, optimized four-month content strategies around client needs, search opportunities, business priorities, and expected outcomes.
Created clearer forward-looking content plans for coordinator execution, giving my coordinator an established pipeline of work and better visibility into what was coming next instead of assigning content one piece at a time.
Started scaling how content work is delegated, separating the strategic decisions from repeatable execution so coordinator support can increase output without sacrificing the thinking behind the work.
Used longer-term planning to create greater continuity across client accounts, moving away from isolated monthly deliverables and toward strategies where individual pages and content pieces support a larger goal.
05 / MIGRATE
Migration & Technical Leadership
Taking on increasingly complex migration work while learning new platforms, identifying technical opportunities, and improving the systems that support SEO through a site transition.
Expanded into SEO onboarding and website migrations, beginning with onboarding new SEO clients and moving into migration work in May, including content evaluation, page selection, redirects, metadata, site structure, and SEO QA.
Identified opportunities to reduce repetitive migration work, helping drive the creation of an SEO redirect import tool and a blog import workflow designed to preserve metadata and reduce manual rebuilding during migrations.
Completed my first collision-site migration in July, expanding into Webflow and learning how its structure, components, and CMS work while identifying opportunities to strengthen SEO relevance within a different type of website and development environment.
Started working more closely at the intersection of SEO and web design, including developing a more intentional approach to Shift Digital’s Kia homepage content requirements so required SEO content can feel like part of the page experience rather than an afterthought. This work is still evolving.
06 / FUTURE
AI-Enabled SEO & The Future of Search
Exploring how AI can change not only what appears in search, but how our team researches, plans, creates, and communicates SEO work.
The goal isn’t to manufacture a version of the business for AI. It’s to create a clearer digital representation of the business that already exists.
Expanded AI from a content-writing tool into a broader SEO workflow tool, using it for research, content strategy development, content creation, analysis, and other areas where it can increase efficiency and output without lowering the quality of client work.
Continually test how AI can support the team’s day-to-day execution, focusing on where automation or assistance removes low-value effort while preserving the judgment, expertise, and quality that still require a person.
Lead ongoing conversations with Garrett around building stronger internal knowledge of each dealership, capturing the details that make a business distinct so our content reflects the actual company rather than producing generic dealership information.
Started connecting that knowledge strategy to the changing search ecosystem, thinking about how clearer business entities, positioning, expertise, and contextual information can help search engines, LLMs, AI Overviews, and other AI systems better understand and represent our clients.
Why I Keep Building
I found the need before anyone asked me to solve it.
Looking back at the growth opportunities from my last portfolio review, much of this work started the same way: I saw where people were getting stuck, where gaps in knowledge or process were limiting growth, and where repetitive work was creating unnecessary load. I started building solutions that could remove those barriers, share the work more effectively, and give Garrett and the team more support. The more I understand, the more useful I can be to the people around me.
I want to be exceptional at what I do. That means continuing to learn, asking better questions, testing new ideas, and understanding the work deeply enough that I can make it better and teach it to someone else.
I’m proud to work at Sokal. I want us to provide the best SEO service we possibly can across automotive and collision, and I believe getting there requires more than great individual work.
It requires coordinators who understand how to execute the work and why it matters. Specialists who have clear systems instead of reinventing processes. Web teams who understand what SEO needs from the sites they build. Account teams who can confidently explain what we do, why we do it, and how it creates value for our clients.
That’s why I keep building trainings, SOPs, tools, standards, and shared resources. Knowledge trapped in someone’s head doesn’t scale. Knowledge shared becomes capability.
The goal isn’t to make myself indispensable.
It’s to help build a company where more people know what great looks like and have the tools to create it.
What Comes Next
I want to keep working at the intersection of strategy, enablement, standards, experimentation, and search, building systems that make strong SEO easier to execute and easier to understand across teams. The next chapter is about turning what I’ve learned into greater capability, stronger services, and more shared knowledge.
